This well-proportioned piece features three full-width drawers, each designed with applied moldings to simulate a six-drawer arrangement — a popular decorative convention of the era.
Constructed using pegged mortise-and-tenon joints and hand-cut dovetails, the chest displays hallmark craftsmanship of the period. The oak has developed a deep, rich patina, especially visible on the attractively worn top with age-related marks and color variation. The sides are framed in traditional panel construction, and the piece stands on integral stile legs, all typical of provincial English furniture of the late 1600s.
Each drawer retains period-style brass drop handles and shaped escutcheons (likely 18th- or 19th-century replacements), enhancing its antique appeal. The interior runners and backboards show honest wear, adding to its character.
