- 17th Century Charles II Carved ArmchairCountry of Origin: EnglandCirca: 1675On offer is a rare and beautiful late 17th Century ash armchair. The back having two vertical panels of cane-work in a pierced frame carved with undulating scrolls of crested foliage and flanked by ball-knopped barleytwist uprights with carved artichoke finials. The scroll-end arms, which are very typical of the period, are enriched with acanthus sprays on ball-knopped posts leading down to a caned seat with turned legs united by a turned H-stretchers and a pierced foliate carved rail to the front. It is really an outstanding piece of history that would add a great deal of character to any room.Dimensions: 23" W x 43" H
The chair is in excellent condition and is quite sturdy. There is some minor losses throughout and various imperfections to the finish at various spots. It is likely that the feet were replaced at some point along with the caning.
