17th Century Charles I Oak Bible Box
    Country of Origin: England
    Circa: 1630

This rectangular oak chest or bible box features a beautifully hand-carved front panel adorned with arcaded semi-circular arches and geometric motifs. The carving, along with the detailed punch-work, adds a layer of intricate artistry to the piece that is certain to catch the eye. The body is constructed of solid oak, known for its strength and durability, with a rich patina that has developed over the centuries.  The iron lock plate look to be of the period, though probably not original to the box, exhibiting craftsmanship consistent with the hand-forged hardware of the era. The nails, visible on the sides and back, indicate traditional construction methods, and the dovetail joints further suggest the chest’s age and authenticity.  The wear and natural aging seen in the wood, particularly on the top and edges, adds to its character and historic charm, making it a fine example of British oak furniture from the early 17th century.

    Dimensions: 11"H x 28"W x 19"D

Condition: The box is in very good condition. There are of course, various areas of loss and old repairs and reinforcing done, but considering its age, it's doing great! Obviously, the lock no longer works and there is no key and the likely original wire hinges were replaced long ago by the strap hingers you can see in the pics.
